Hello!
My name is Grace Ann. I'm an illustrator and designer based in Stockholm, Sweden.
My Background:
Though I'm originally from Texas, I've called Stockholm home now since December 2009. One of the things I really love about Sweden is that people here truly value nature and spending time outdoors. These also happen to be two of my favorite things and where I often get my creative inspiration. I also really love the kardemummabullar here (cardamom buns) and let's be honest, it's pretty much always about the food.
You'll often find me in my favorite spot, sitting at the kitchen table with a strong cup of coffee, my sketchbook, and my iPadPro, creating colorful, happy patterns & illustrations to make people smile and bring joy to the world.
I studied digital content design at Medieinstitutet here in Stockholm from 2016-2018. Digital content design is essentially graphic design for digital media - anything from web design, social media, DOOH (digital out of home video displays), app design and anything designed to be displayed digitally. Following my education I freelanced for a year and then I worked for 4 years as the in-house graphic designer, illustrator, and motion designer for a restaurant group in Sweden called Texas Longhorn. Yes, I am aware of the irony!
I have now transitioned primarily into illustration but I still maintain my graphic design skills and use them often for design projects as well as design details of my illustration work.
When I am not drawing, I'm usually outdoors riding my bike, walking in a favorite park, visiting a museum, or having fika with a friend. Fika is the beloved, Swedish tradition of meeting a friend for coffee and a little, sweet treat. And everyone here indulges! It's another one of my favorite things about Sweden.
My Inspiration:
I find inspiration for my work pretty much anywhere. It could be the vibrant color or design of a dress that catches my eye in a shop window, a Bauhaus-inspired typography on a street poster that stays with me, a funky piece of art I come across that gives me a vibe, a sticker on a pole that sticks out (literally - haha), people watching in the park or while sitting on a city bench – something I see or experience sparks my mind and I quickly jot the inspiration down in my notes app. I am always bubbling over with ideas and inspiration, constantly churning out concepts to explore.
My Passion:
I love using my creative inspiration to help amplify & elevate client projects with colorful, joyful illustrations! Some of my favorite things to work with include pattern design, food-related illustrations & packaging design, and anything featuring cats. I also love incorporating activism into my work and I’m especially passionate about issues that involve the planet, humans rights, and health.
